After over one year of teasing and plenty of speculation, Carowinds finally announced their 2016 plans. For 2016, Carowinds will be receiving a major waterpark overhaul and expansion. It will transition from Boomerang Bay to Carolina Harbor with a wide number of new additions.

The first of these new additions is Blackbeard’s Revenge. This six story slide tower will feature six slides. Three capsule drop slides, two tube slides centered around major drops, and a tube slide centered around a tight helix. It will be another installation of WhiteWater Attractions’s Snake Pit model at a Cedar Fair park. I rode the installation of this at Kings Dominion, and I really enjoyed the slides. They will make a great new ride for Carowinds in 2016!

In addition to Blackbeard’s Revenge, they announced a new 27,000 square foot wave pool. Waves will reach a maximum height of 6 feet. It will be known as Surf Club Harbor.

For younger guests, Carowinds announced two new kids play areas, which will be titled “Myrtle Turtle Beach” and “Kiddy Hawk Cove.” It looks similar to the one Kings Dominion installed for 2015. Kids definitely enjoyed it while we were at their waterpark.

Another addition for guests of all ages will be Seaside Splashworks. This will be what I call a “splash tower.” These are always popular attractions and great ways to get soaked.

In addition to these new attractions, Carolina Harbor will also receive its own entrance from the back of the parking lot. It will be designed to allow guests to enter directly into the waterpark. Another non-attraction addition for 2016 will be the new Harbor House restaurant. It will feature a full service bar and enhanced dining options. The final announcement for Carowinds’s waterpark will be more lounge chairs, new sand volleyball courts, a new bath house, and cabanas. All of this will help guests’s experience in the newly expanded waterpark.

With all of these new attractions, it’s hard to believe that Carowinds announced even more for 2016! The park will also receive a new Cirque Imagine show. Cirque Imagine has become a popular show at other Cedar Fair parks such as Kings Dominion and Kings Island, it will definitely help Carowinds bring more live entertainment to their park!

Also, Carowinds will build a new Starbucks near the front gate of the park. This will follow a trend of bringing the franchise to theme parks. I’m guessing that it will be similar to Kings Dominion’s, which is located to the right of the park entrance upon entry to the park.

Finally, Carowinds also teased another new addition, which involved hearing the word “brains” over the speaker at the announcement and a small teaser. We are not sure what this is, but many have speculated a Plants Vs. Zombies experience for 2016. All we know is that it will be “first of its kind” and that it will be announced in October.
