On Friday, October 9th, 2015, the California Coastal Commission, which is a planning board that oversees development along the coastline of California, approved SeaWorld San Diego’s Blue World expansion with a catch. This catch was that the company would not be allowed to continue breeding its killer whales if they went through with the expansion.

Today, SeaWorld Entertainment announced that they will be taking legal action in order to overturn this clause of the legal agreement. What this means is that SeaWorld will sue the California Coastal Commission.

In my opinion, this is a great move by SeaWorld. The California Coastal Commission is a planning board, and should not judge on the morality of breeding killer whales. This clause should not have been added in the first place, and I am happy to see the park fighting to remove the clause. If the California court system uses proper judgement, this should be a quick case resulting in favor of SeaWorld. If the California courts rule against SeaWorld, the future of Blue World is uncertain and they definitely will not make the correct decision (this is both my judgement and when you look at the legality of the clause).

Do you hope SeaWorld is successful in overruling this clause? If you have a differing opinion to me, feel free to express it in a constructive manner! Let us know by commenting below!
